Strategic Crisis Management and Emergency Response Planning

A crisis exposes whatever was already true about an organisation, and the plans that fail are the ones written to satisfy an auditor rather than to be used by frightened people at three in the morning. This course builds usable ones. Delegates work through identifying the crises that are actually plausible for the operation, and the difference between an incident, an emergency and a crisis. Command structure and who decides what follow, since ambiguity about authority is the most common failure. Notification, escalation and getting the right people awake are covered. Emergency response for the site is addressed: evacuation, assembly, accounting for people and interfacing with public services. Communication with staff, families, media and regulators follows. Business continuity and recovery are covered. The course closes on exercising the plan realistically and on the review that follows a real event.
