Procurement functions are commonly measured on savings alone, which rewards deferring spend and squeezing suppliers rather than supplying the organisation well. This course builds a fuller picture. Delegates work through what procurement is actually accountable for, a measurement framework covering cost, risk, compliance, service and supplier performance, and the definition of each measure precisely enough that it cannot be gamed. Data sources and their reliability are covered. Benchmarking is treated with appropriate caution. Reporting to executives and to budget holders is practised, since the two audiences need different things. The course closes on using measurement to direct improvement rather than to defend the function.
