Laboratory Leadership and Supervision

Laboratory supervisors are usually promoted for analytical ability and then held accountable for turnaround, quality, safety and a team, none of which the promotion prepared them for. This course covers the supervisory job. Delegates work through planning and prioritising a workload against turnaround commitments, allocating work across analysts of differing competence, and holding quality without becoming the person who checks everything personally. People material covers feedback, difficult conversations and building competence deliberately. The course also addresses the supervisor's role in safety and in an assessment, and closes on managing upward when demand exceeds capacity.
