Corporate Security Investigations and Evidence

A security investigation usually ends in a disciplinary hearing rather than a court, and it is lost there far more often on how the evidence was gathered than on whether the person did it. This course is built around that outcome. Delegates work through the security incidents an investigator actually handles: theft, unauthorised access, damage, threats, misuse of assets and breaches of procedure. Scene preservation is addressed, including the physical security scene that is routinely destroyed before anybody arrives. Closed circuit television evidence is covered in detail: locating footage before retention expires, exporting it properly, establishing continuity and the metadata that proves what a clip is. Physical evidence, seals, access logs and system records follow. Witness statements are covered, including taking one that will stand up. Interviewing is addressed within the limits on an employer. Report writing is covered, separating evidence from inference and stating what is not known. Disciplinary and criminal routes are addressed, along with when to involve police. The course closes on confidentiality, on investigator conduct and on defensible outcomes.
