Project and Contract

Construction Contracts

Construction contracts allocate risks that are certain to materialise on some project, and most disputes trace to a party accepting a risk it did not price. This course covers the standard forms and how they distribute that risk. Delegates work through the main contract families and their philosophies, the roles of employer, contractor and engineer or project manager, and the mechanisms governing time, money and quality. Extension of time, variations, valuation and payment are worked through against the clauses that control them. Bonds, guarantees, retention and insurance are covered, and the course closes on defects, completion and the final account.
