Drilling and Reservoir EngineeringWorkover and Well Servicing Operations
Mature fields across Africa hold many wells shut in or underperforming for reasons a well planned workover could fix: a parted rod string, a leaking packer, scale in the tubing, water breaking through from a lower zone. Delegates learn to select candidates from production and integrity data, scope the job and estimate its return before a rig is called out. Workover rig types and hoists, killing and suspending the well, pulling and running completions, and recovering stuck packers are covered in sequence. Remedial work follows: zone isolation with bridge plugs and squeezes, recompletion to a new interval, tubing replacement and casing repair. Job planning, programme writing, cost control and post job review complete the course. Delegates leave able to identify, justify and run a workover that pays for itself.
Course objectives
- Screen wells for workover potential using production and integrity data
- Estimate the incremental production and payback of a proposed job
- Select a workover rig or hoist suited to the well and task
- Plan well kill and suspension before pulling the completion
- Plan retrieval of stuck packers and damaged tubing
- Design zone isolation and recompletion operations
- Write a workover programme with clear steps and contingencies
- Review job outcomes against the original justification
Who should attend
- Workover and well services engineers
- Production engineers managing mature fields
- Workover rig supervisors and toolpushers
- Asset managers allocating well intervention budgets
- Petroleum engineers new to brownfield operations
