Petroleum GeoscienceWellsite and Operations Geology
At three in the morning on a rig, the wellsite geologist may have to call a casing point, stop drilling for a core or warn that the bit has just entered an overpressured shale. Those calls depend on reading cuttings, gas and drilling data quickly. Delegates start with the well proposal and geological prognosis, then cover cuttings sampling, lithology description, hydrocarbon shows, fluorescence and calcimetry. Mud logging gas data, drilling parameters and early warning signs of pressure change follow. Coring operations, logging programme supervision and formation testing are treated from the operations geologist's seat. The programme ends with daily reporting, end of well reports and coordination between office, rig and service contractors. Delegates leave able to supervise geological operations safely and make timely, well documented decisions at the wellsite.
