Fabric formation is where yarn quality, machine condition and operator attention meet, and where a fault that took a second to create is cut out of a roll days later at full fabric cost. This course covers both routes to fabric. Delegates work through warp preparation, warping, sizing and the beam quality that determines how a loom will run. Loom mechanisms are covered across shedding, picking and beat up, with weft insertion by rapier, air jet and projectile compared. Weave structures and fabric specification follow. Knitting is addressed separately: circular and flat machines, stitch formation, and the fabric parameters knitters control. Fabric faults are worked through by appearance and traced to their cause, whether yarn, machine setting or handling. Machine efficiency, stoppage analysis and the arithmetic of loom utilisation are covered. Grey fabric inspection and point systems follow. The course closes on maintenance and on setting a machine for a new article.
