Every system has one constraint that sets its output, and improving anything else produces local efficiency, more inventory and no additional throughput, which is why so many improvement programmes report gains the income statement never shows. This course covers finding and exploiting the constraint. Delegates work through the five focusing steps, identifying the constraint from flow and queue evidence rather than opinion, and exploiting it so that it never stops for a reason within your control. Subordinating everything else is covered, since this is the step organisations resist. Elevating and the danger of the constraint moving follow. Throughput accounting is introduced as the measurement that makes these decisions visible. The course closes on applying the approach to projects and to service operations.
