Finishing decides what a fabric feels like and how it behaves in use, which means it decides whether a customer accepts the order, and it is applied last when there is no time left to correct a mistake. This course covers getting it right at that point. Delegates work through printing methods, rotary screen, flat screen and digital, with the paste or ink chemistry each requires. Print faults and registration problems are traced to cause. Fixation, washing off and the effluent load printing creates are addressed. Mechanical finishing follows: calendering, raising, sanforising and compacting, and the dimensional stability each contributes. Chemical finishing is covered across softeners, resin finishes, water repellency and flame retardancy, with the durability and the trade offs each carries. Stenter operation, overfeed and residual shrinkage control are addressed. Handle assessment and customer expectation are covered. The course closes on finishing route selection for a specification and on faults that only appear after washing.
