Mining and MineralsTailings Storage Facility Management
A tailings facility is the largest structure most mines will ever build and the one whose failure has killed the most people, which is why its governance is now scrutinised by regulators, lenders and insurers alike. This course covers managing one. Delegates work through facility types and construction methods and the reasons upstream construction has been restricted in several jurisdictions, water balance and freeboard management, and the instrumentation and monitoring that detects a developing problem. Governance receives full treatment, including the accountable person, independent review and the emergency preparedness and response plan. The course closes on closure planning and long term stewardship of a facility that outlives the mine.
