Buyers are being asked to deliver environmental and social outcomes through purchasing decisions, often without a budget for it and against suppliers whose claims cannot easily be checked. This course covers doing it credibly. Delegates work through what sustainable procurement actually means in practice, building requirements into specification and award criteria so they carry weight, and evaluating a supplier's claims including the evidence to demand. Life cycle thinking and whole life cost are covered, since the sustainable option is often cheaper over time and dearer at purchase. Supply chain due diligence for labour and human rights is addressed. The course closes on measuring and reporting outcomes without overstating them.
