Sulphuric Acid Plant Operations

Sulphuric acid plants sit alongside smelters and fertiliser works producing the highest volume industrial chemical there is, and they run hot, corrosive and continuously, with emissions limits that leave little operating margin. This course covers running one. Delegates work through sulphur burning and metallurgical gas feed and their differences, gas cleaning and drying, and conversion including catalyst behaviour and the interpass absorption that raises conversion efficiency. Absorption and acid circulation are covered, along with the heat recovery that dominates plant economics. Materials selection and corrosion in acid service receive full attention. Emissions and the stack limit are addressed. The course closes on start up, shutdown and the safety of concentrated acid handling.
