Manufacturing and ProductionSugar Milling and Refinery Operations
A sugar factory runs a fixed season against cane that starts deteriorating the moment it is cut, so recovery is lost to delays and to sucrose that never reaches the pan floor. This course follows the losses. Delegates work through cane quality, burn to crush delay and the payment systems that reward it. Cane preparation and milling follow, including imbibition and the extraction the mill tandem achieves. Diffusion is covered as the alternative. Juice clarification, liming and the settling that determines mud handling are addressed. Evaporation and the multiple effect station follow, including scaling and cleaning cycles. Crystallisation is covered in operational detail: massecuite boiling, seeding, strike control and centrifugal separation. Refining follows for white sugar production. Molasses, bagasse and cogeneration are addressed as revenue rather than waste. The course closes on the overall recovery account and on season end maintenance.
