Mining and MineralsShaft Systems, Winders and Vertical Transport
A shaft is the only way people and rock leave a deep mine, which makes the winder the single item of equipment whose failure stops everything and whose malfunction kills. This course covers operating and maintaining that system. Delegates work through shaft layout, equipping and steelwork, winder types and their drive and control systems, and rope selection, care and the statutory examination regime. Braking systems and safety devices are covered in detail, including the interlocks that prevent overwind. Conveyance operation, signalling and man winding procedures follow. The course closes on inspection, condition monitoring and the emergency procedures for a shaft incident.
