Secure Software Development Practices

Security defects are cheapest to fix while the code is being written and most expensive once the application is processing customer data, yet most testing happens at the end. This course moves it earlier. Delegates work through the common vulnerability classes and the code patterns that cause them, input validation, output encoding and the injection failures that persist decades after being understood. Authentication, session and access control implementation are covered. Secrets handling and dependency risk receive full attention, since most modern code is inherited. Threat modelling is practised on a real design. The course closes on security testing in a build pipeline and on triaging what the tools report.

Course objectives

  • Identify the common vulnerability classes and their code patterns
  • Apply input validation and output encoding correctly
  • Implement authentication, session and access control securely
  • Handle secrets without embedding them in code or images
  • Assess and manage dependency and supply chain risk
  • Threat model a design before it is built
  • Integrate security testing into a build pipeline and triage its output

Who should attend

  • Software developers and engineers
  • Technical leads and architects
  • Quality assurance and test engineers
  • Security staff supporting development teams
  • Development managers setting standards
