SAP Master Data Governance

Master data problems are experienced as transaction failures, duplicate vendors and reports that do not agree, and they are solved upstream or not at all. This course covers the governance that prevents them. Delegates work through defining ownership for each master data object, since data without a named owner degrades regardless of tooling. Data models and the fields that genuinely require governance are covered, as opposed to governing everything and stalling the business. Request driven creation and change processes follow, including approval workflow and the segregation between requester and approver. Validation, derivation and duplicate checking are addressed. Data quality rules and measuring quality as a live figure rather than a project outcome are covered. Consolidation of existing duplicates and the merge decisions that carry risk follow. Distribution and replication to consuming systems are addressed. The course closes on governance operating model and on keeping the process fast enough that people use it.

  • Assign ownership for every master data object
  • Decide which fields genuinely require governance
  • Design request driven creation and change processes with approval workflow
  • Configure validation, derivation and duplicate checking
  • Measure data quality as a live figure
  • Consolidate existing duplicates and manage merge risk
  • Replicate to consuming systems and run a governance operating model
