Custom code is where a standard system meets a business that does not work the way the software assumed, and it is also where upgrades break and performance problems originate. This course covers writing it responsibly. Delegates work through the development environment and repository, language fundamentals including data types, internal tables and control structures, and database access with the performance rules that separate an acceptable program from one that locks a production system. Modularisation, function modules and classes follow. Reports, selection screens and output are covered. Enhancement and extension techniques are addressed, including why modifying standard code is a decision with a long tail. The course closes on debugging, transport and code review.
