Sanctions Compliance and Screening

Sanctions breaches are strict liability in many regimes, meaning intention offers no defence, and exposure arrives through counterparties and vessels rather than through customers alone. This course covers managing that. Delegates work through the main sanctions regimes and how they apply extraterritorially, list types and the difference between a designated person and one who is merely owned or controlled by them. Screening design is covered: what to screen, when, against which lists, and how to tune matching so genuine hits are not lost among false positives. Trade and shipping exposure receives particular attention. The course closes on escalation, freezing, reporting and on responding to an apparent breach.

  • Escalate, freeze and report correctly
  • Respond to an apparent breach and manage disclosure
