Maintenance ManagementRisk Based Inspection Planning
Inspecting everything on a fixed interval spends most of the budget on equipment that will not fail and still misses the item that does. Risk based inspection redistributes that effort. This course covers the method. Delegates work through equipment screening and the identification of damage mechanisms by service, likelihood assessment from degradation rate and inspection history, and consequence assessment across safety, environmental and production loss. Risk ranking and the inspection plan that follows are built rather than described. Inspection effectiveness is covered, since a technique that cannot detect the mechanism does not reduce risk. The course closes on reassessment after inspection and on defending the approach to a regulator or insurer.
Course objectives
- Screen equipment and identify damage mechanisms by service
- Assess likelihood from degradation rate and inspection history
- Assess consequence across safety, environmental and production loss
- Rank risk and build an inspection plan from it
- Judge inspection effectiveness against the mechanism present
- Reassess risk using inspection results
- Defend the approach to a regulator or insurer
Who should attend
