Maintenance programmes are usually inherited rather than designed, which is why plants carry tasks that prevent nothing and lack tasks that would prevent a great deal. This course covers designing the programme deliberately. Delegates work through functions and functional failures as the correct starting point, failure modes and effects analysis at the level of detail that is actually useful, and consequence evaluation across safety, environmental, operational and economic categories. Task selection follows the logic that a task must be both applicable and worth doing. Default actions including redesign and run to failure are treated as legitimate outcomes. The course closes on implementing a revised programme and on the living programme that adapts to experience.
