Project Planning and Scheduling

A programme is a model of how work will happen, and most are built to satisfy a reporting requirement rather than to be used. This course builds usable ones. Delegates work through scope definition and the work breakdown structure, activity definition, logic and the critical path, and duration estimating including where the estimate comes from and how much confidence it deserves. Resource loading and levelling follow, then baselining and progress measurement that reflects actual completion rather than elapsed time. The course covers schedule risk analysis and the float ownership question that decides many disputes, and closes on recovery when a programme has already slipped.

Course objectives

  • Define scope and build a work breakdown structure
  • Define activities, logic and identify the critical path
  • Estimate durations and state the confidence they carry

  • Recover a programme that has already slipped
