Process Plant Commissioning and Start Up

Commissioning is where design assumptions meet a physical plant, and where the cost of every earlier shortcut is finally paid. This course covers running it. Delegates work through commissioning strategy and system breakdown, the sequence from mechanical completion through pre commissioning to first feed, and the punch listing and handover discipline that determines what an operating team inherits. Cleaning, flushing, drying and leak testing are covered in order, alongside the safety regime for a plant that is partly live and partly under construction. The course closes on first start up, performance testing against guarantee, and the defects that only appear once a unit has run for a week.

Course objectives

  • Build a commissioning strategy and break a plant into systems
  • Sequence mechanical completion, pre commissioning and commissioning
  • Run punch listing and system handover so nothing is inherited unknowingly
  • Plan cleaning, flushing, drying and leak testing in the right order
  • Operate a safety regime for a partly live, partly constructed plant
  • Execute a first start up and stabilise the unit
  • Conduct performance testing against guarantee

Who should attend

  • Commissioning engineers and managers
  • Project and construction engineers
  • Operations staff receiving a new plant
  • Process and control engineers
  • HSE professionals supporting commissioning
