Logistics and Supply ChainPort and Terminal Operations
Ports concentrate the cost and the delay of an entire supply chain into a few hundred metres, and a shipper who does not understand what happens there cannot tell a genuine constraint from a chargeable one. This course covers the terminal. Delegates work through port layout and the container, bulk and break bulk terminals within it, vessel operations including berth planning and stevedoring, and yard operations and storage. Documentation and cargo release are covered, along with the demurrage and storage charges that accumulate during a delay. Landside interface and truck turnaround follow. The course closes on congestion, on port performance measures and on what a shipper can actually influence.
