Process and ChemicalPiping and Pipeline Codes: ASME B31 and API Standards
Piping and pipeline codes state what may be built, welded, tested and repaired, and an engineer who cannot navigate them relies on somebody else's recollection of what they say. This course covers using them. Delegates work through the structure of the ASME B31 family and the scope of each section, design requirements including allowable stress, wall thickness and pressure design, and the materials and fabrication requirements that follow. Welding qualification under ASME IX is covered, including procedure and performance qualification. Pipeline specific standards for welding and integrity management are addressed, and the course closes on inspection, testing and code compliant repair.
Course objectives
- Navigate the ASME B31 family and identify the applicable section
- Apply allowable stress and pressure design requirements
- Determine wall thickness and account for allowances
- Apply materials and fabrication requirements
