Health, Safety and SecurityPerimeter Protection and Intrusion Detection
A perimeter buys time, and the only question that matters is whether it buys enough of it for a response to arrive, which is a calculation almost nobody does before spending the money. This course starts with that calculation. Delegates work through the delay, detect and respond model and how to time each element on a real site. Threat and vulnerability assessment follows, covering who is likely to attack, with what capability, and where. Physical barriers are covered across fencing types, walls, anti climb measures and vehicle barriers, with the defeat method and delay time of each. Detection technology is addressed: fence disturbance sensors, buried cable, microwave, infrared beams and video analytics, with the environmental conditions that cause nuisance alarms for each. Lighting is covered as both a deterrent and a detection aid. Clear zones and vegetation management follow. Integration of detection with assessment and response is addressed. The course closes on testing a perimeter honestly, on maintenance and on the creep that degrades one over years.
Course objectives
- Time delay, detection and response on a real site
- Assess threat and vulnerability before specifying anything
- Compare barriers on defeat method and delay time
- Select detection technology against the site's nuisance alarm conditions
- Use lighting for deterrence and assessment
- Maintain clear zones and vegetation control
- Test a perimeter honestly and arrest the creep that degrades it
Who should attend
