Mobile Money and Digital Financial Services

Mobile money moves a substantial share of the value transacted across this continent and reaches people no branch network ever did, on infrastructure and business rules that differ fundamentally from conventional banking. This course covers how it works. Delegates work through the value chain from subscriber through agent to the trust account that backs electronic value, float management and the liquidity problem that agents face daily, and the revenue model behind tariffs and interoperability. Agent network economics and management are covered, since the network is the product. Regulation follows: licensing, trust account requirements, customer due diligence at low value tiers, and consumer protection. Fraud patterns are addressed. The course closes on interoperability, cross border remittance and merchant payments.
