Mining Health and Safety Legislation and Compliance

Mining is the most heavily regulated workplace in Southern Africa, and the duties fall personally on named appointees rather than on the company in the abstract. This course covers meeting them. Delegates work through the statutory framework governing mine health and safety, the appointment structure and what each appointee is legally answerable for, and the mandatory codes of practice a mine must hold and keep current. Risk assessment, hazard identification and the legal requirement behind them are covered. Inspections, notices, stoppages and the powers of an inspector are addressed. The course closes on accident reporting, inquiries and the personal liability that follows a serious incident.
