Mining and MineralsMineral Economics and Project Evaluation
Mining projects are evaluated across decades against commodity prices nobody can forecast, and the decision to build is effectively irreversible. This course covers the economics behind that decision. Delegates work through resource and reserve classification and what each category permits an evaluation to assume, capital and operating cost estimation and the accuracy classes that go with a study stage, mine scheduling and its effect on cash flow, and the discounted cash flow model itself. Commodity price and exchange rate uncertainty are modelled explicitly. Fiscal terms, royalties and state participation are covered as they apply across African jurisdictions, and the course closes on closure and rehabilitation liability, which is routinely undercounted.
