Mining and MineralsMine Rescue and Emergency Preparedness
A mine emergency happens underground, in the dark, often with contaminated air and always with people who cannot simply walk out. This course covers being ready for it. Delegates work through emergency types and their progression, fire, inrush, fall of ground, gas and entrapment, and the emergency response plan that governs each. Refuge bays, escape routes and self contained self rescuers are covered practically, including the training people need to use them under stress. Rescue team organisation, breathing apparatus and the incident command structure follow. Communication, mustering and accounting for people are addressed. The course closes on drills, on family and media handling, and on the investigation that follows.
