Oil, Gas and PetrochemicalsMethane Emissions Measurement and Reduction
A handful of large leaks often accounts for most of a site's methane, and inventories built on generic emission factors regularly miss them. The course starts with where methane actually escapes: tank vents, glycol dehydrators, pneumatic controllers, compressor seals and rod packing, incomplete flare combustion and fugitive leaks. Delegates then practise detection and quantification with optical gas imaging cameras, handheld sniffers, high flow samplers, continuous fixed sensors and aerial and satellite surveys. Designing a leak detection and repair programme, reconciling source level with site level figures and reporting to OGMP 2.0 levels follow. The last sessions rank abatement options, from replacing pneumatics to vapour recovery, by cost per tonne avoided. Emissions teams leave able to build a measurement based methane programme and cut losses where it counts.
