Oil, Gas and PetrochemicalsMarine Terminal Operations and Loading Master Practice
Most spills and overfills at oil jetties happen at the manifold, in the minutes when ship and shore each assume the other is in control. The loading master stands at that point. Delegates work through berth suitability and moorings, the ship and shore safety checklist, the pre transfer conference and an agreed cargo plan, drawing on ISGOTT guidance. Marine loading arms, hoses, emergency release couplings and insulating flanges are covered, followed by ullage, trim and draft survey calculations and vapour return. Later sessions cover weather limits, static electricity, inert gas, ballast and slops, and with the paperwork that settles disputes: bills of lading, notices of readiness, letters of protest and laytime statements. Loading masters leave equipped to supervise a crude or product transfer from first line ashore to final documents, with safety, quantity and time under control.
