Managing Workplace Conflict and Difficult Behaviour

Unresolved friction between colleagues, teams and reporting lines quietly erodes productivity long before it ever reaches a formal grievance. This course gives HR practitioners and line managers a practical toolkit for reading early warning signs, de-escalating heated exchanges, and mediating disputes fairly across culturally diverse African workforces. Participants leave with scripts, mediation frameworks and a personal action plan for the three most common conflict scenarios in their own organisation.

Course objectives

  • Distinguish between healthy disagreement and destructive conflict using a structured diagnostic model
  • Apply de-escalation techniques for verbally aggressive or emotionally charged encounters
  • Facilitate a structured mediation session between two disputing employees
  • Draft conflict resolution documentation that stands up to later scrutiny
  • Design a team level early warning system to catch conflict before it escalates
