Maintenance spares are bought against a failure that may never happen, on lead times that make waiting impossible, which makes the stocking decision unusually hard to justify either way. This course covers making it defensibly. Delegates work through criticality assessment, the relationship between failure rate, lead time and consequence, and the calculation that decides whether an item is stocked at all. Insurance spares and their governance receive their own treatment, as do commissioning spares and the handover from project to operations where a great deal of stock is quietly inherited. The course closes on obsolescence, repairable rotables and the periodic review that keeps a spares holding honest.
