Maintenance Management

Maintenance Metrics and Asset Performance Reporting

Maintenance functions report availability and compliance to schedule, both of which can be excellent while the plant is being run into the ground. This course builds reporting that tells the truth. Delegates work through the measures that matter across reliability, availability, cost and work management, the definitions each requires to be comparable, and the data quality that determines whether any of it means anything. Leading and lagging indicators are distinguished. Benchmarking is treated with caution about comparability. Presenting to operations and to finance is practised, since each wants a different answer. The course closes on using measurement to direct improvement and on the metrics that reward the wrong behaviour.

Course objectives

  • Select measures across reliability, availability, cost and work management
  • Define each measure precisely enough to be comparable
  • Assess whether data quality supports the measures reported
  • Distinguish leading from lagging indicators
  • Benchmark with appropriate caution about comparability
  • Report differently to operations and to finance
  • Recognise metrics that reward the wrong behaviour

Who should attend
