Low Code Application Development and Citizen Developers

Low code platforms let people who understand a process build the application for it, which removes a queue in the technology function and creates a different problem: applications running critical work that nobody supports and nobody documented. This course addresses both. Delegates work through what these platforms do well and the point at which a requirement has outgrown them, application design including data structure and the forms and workflow built on it, and integration with existing systems. Governance is treated seriously: environments, ownership, review and the register of what exists. Security and data access are covered. The course closes on support, handover and the lifecycle of an application whose builder has changed jobs.

Course objectives

  • Identify what low code platforms do well and when a requirement outgrows them
  • Design data structure, forms and workflow for an application
  • Integrate with existing systems and data sources
  • Establish environments, ownership and review
  • Maintain a register of what has been built and by whom
  • Apply security and data access controls appropriately
  • Plan support, handover and lifecycle when the builder moves on

Who should attend

  • Business analysts and process owners
  • Citizen developers building departmental applications
  • IT staff governing low code platforms
  • Operations managers automating manual processes
  • Risk and audit staff reviewing self built applications
