Intellectual Property Protection and Commercialisation

Intellectual property is created continuously inside organisations and is usually protected only after somebody else has used it, by which point the options have narrowed considerably. This course covers protecting it in time and earning from it. Delegates work through the main rights, patent, trade mark, copyright, design and trade secret, and what each protects and for how long. Ownership questions are covered, including employee and contractor creations and the assignments that should have been signed. Registration procedure and regional arrangements follow. Licensing, royalties and technology transfer are addressed commercially. The course closes on enforcement, counterfeiting and the practical limits of remedies in African markets.
