Process and ChemicalIndustrial Wastewater Treatment
Industrial effluent is variable, sometimes toxic to the very biology meant to treat it, and discharged under a permit whose breach is an offence. This course covers treating it. Delegates work through effluent characterisation and load variation, primary treatment including screening, equalisation and oil separation, and physical chemical treatment such as coagulation, flocculation and dissolved air flotation. Biological treatment is covered in depth, including the conditions that upset a plant and how to recover it. Sludge handling and disposal follow. The course closes on monitoring, permit compliance and reporting, and on reducing load at source rather than treating it downstream.
Course objectives
- Characterise an effluent and account for load variation
