Power and ElectricalGrid Code Compliance and Generator Connection
Connecting a generator to a network is a regulated process with technical requirements that determine plant design, and projects routinely discover them after the equipment has been ordered. This course covers them upfront. Delegates work through the grid code structure and which requirements apply to which category of generator, the connection application process and the studies a network operator requires, and the technical requirements themselves: reactive capability, voltage and frequency ride through, and frequency response. Protection and control interface requirements are covered. Compliance testing and the evidence a network operator will accept follow. Renewable specific requirements are addressed. The course closes on ongoing compliance obligations and on the consequence of failing a compliance test after commissioning.
Course objectives
- Identify which grid code requirements apply to a given generator
- Complete a connection application and commission the required studies
- Design for reactive capability and voltage control requirements
