Fundamentals of Cybersecurity for Boards and Executives

A director does not need to configure a firewall, but does need to know which questions expose a weak answer. This course provides that. Delegates cover the threat landscape in plain terms, what ransomware actually does to an organisation and why paying is a poor plan, and the small number of controls that prevent the majority of incidents. The governance material is practical: reading a security report critically, recognising when technical reassurance is not an answer, and understanding personal liability and disclosure obligations. The course uses documented breaches to show what the board knew, when, and what the reporting had failed to tell them.

Course objectives

  • Describe the threat landscape in business rather than technical terms
  • Explain what ransomware does to an organisation and why paying fails
  • Identify the few controls that prevent most incidents

  • Judge whether a security investment request is proportionate
