Fuel Management and Loss Control

Fuel is the largest running cost in most fleets and the easiest to steal, and the losses that matter are rarely dramatic; they are a few litres per issue, repeated daily, inside a system that cannot tell theft from poor measurement. This course closes that gap. Delegates work through fuel receiving, including delivery verification, dip measurement, temperature correction and the short delivery that is never detected without a check. Storage is covered: tank calibration, water ingress, contamination and housekeeping. Dispensing follows, with pump meter calibration, access control and the issue records that make reconciliation possible. Reconciliation is treated as the central discipline, covering opening stock, receipts, issues and closing stock, and the tolerance beyond which an investigation starts. Consumption monitoring is addressed by vehicle, including litres per hundred kilometres, the factors that legitimately change it and the patterns that indicate theft. Telematics and fuel sensors are covered on what they can and cannot prove. Driver practice and idling are addressed. The course closes on investigation and on the controls that hold.
