Power and ElectricalElectricity Trading and Power Purchase Agreements
Electricity cannot be stored cheaply and must be balanced continuously, which makes its market unlike any other commodity market and its contracts unusually specific about when and how much. This course covers both. Delegates work through market structures from single buyer through to competitive pools and bilateral trading, dispatch, merit order and the pricing that results, and the balancing and settlement arrangements that determine what a participant actually pays. Power purchase agreements are covered clause by clause where it matters: term, capacity and energy payments, availability, curtailment and the take or pay obligation. Currency, indexation and sovereign risk are addressed, since these agreements run for decades. The course closes on wheeling, on renewable intermittency and on negotiating a bankable agreement.
