Drilling and Reservoir EngineeringDrilling Rig Equipment, Inspection and Acceptance
A rig that arrives on contract with a worn crown block, an untested accumulator or an overdue derrick survey can stand idle for weeks while the operator pays mobilisation and the contractor disputes the rate. Rig acceptance exists to catch that before the spud date. Delegates study each system in turn: derrick or mast, drawworks and hoisting line, top drive and rotary, mud pumps and high pressure lines, power generation, pipe handling and the BOP and well control package. For each they learn what to look for, which records to demand and which standards apply, including API RP 4G, Spec 8C, RP 7L and API Standard 53. Slip and cut programmes, dropped object surveys and lifting gear registers are included. Delegates leave able to plan and run a rig audit and close out its findings.
Course objectives
- Describe the function and failure modes of each major rig system
- Plan a rig acceptance audit scope and schedule
- Inspect derrick, mast and substructure against API RP 4G practice
- Assess drawworks, drilling line and slip and cut records
- Verify mud pump, high pressure line and top drive condition
- Review BOP and accumulator testing and maintenance records
- Apply dropped object and lifting equipment controls
- Grade audit findings and agree a close out plan with the contractor
