Data Analytics and Business Intelligence for IT Managers

Technology managers are asked to deliver analytics capability without necessarily having built any, and the commonest result is a platform nobody uses. This course covers delivering the capability rather than the tool. Delegates work through the data architecture underneath reporting, including warehousing, modelling and the pipeline that keeps it current, and data quality as the constraint that determines whether anything downstream is trusted. Governance covers ownership, definitions and the problem of two reports disagreeing. Self service, its promise and its failure modes are addressed, and the course closes on measuring adoption rather than delivery.

Course objectives

  • Design the data architecture underneath a reporting capability
  • Build and maintain pipelines that keep data current
  • Treat data quality as the constraint on everything downstream
  • Establish ownership and shared definitions
  • Resolve the problem of two reports that disagree
  • Assess self service analytics honestly, including its failure modes
  • Measure adoption rather than delivery
