Cross Border Transport and Corridor Operations

A truck moving between Southern African countries spends more time stationary at borders than it does on any single stretch of road, and the delay is administrative rather than physical. This course covers reducing it. Delegates work through the regional corridors and their characteristics, the documentation a cross border movement requires and the sequence in which it must exist, and transit and bond arrangements. Border post processes are covered post by post, including the common causes of rejection. Driver management on long haul is addressed, along with cargo security and the risk points on each corridor. The course closes on cost and transit time modelling and on choosing between corridors for a given movement.

Course objectives

  • Describe the regional corridors and their operating characteristics
  • Prepare cross border documentation in the required sequence
  • Apply transit, bond and customs guarantee arrangements
  • Navigate border post processes and avoid the common rejections
  • Manage drivers, hours and welfare on long haul movements
  • Secure cargo against the risk points on each corridor
  • Model cost and transit time and select between corridors
