Corrugated Board Manufacture and Carton Converting

A corrugated box is engineered to carry a load through a distribution chain and is usually specified by whoever is cheapest, which is why so much product arrives crushed. This course covers making board that performs. Delegates work through paper grades, liner and fluting specification, and the properties that predict box performance. The corrugator is covered in operational detail: single facer, glue application, heating and the moisture and temperature balance that decides warp. Starch adhesive preparation and control follow. Board combinations and flute profiles are addressed against the load and printing requirements. Converting follows across die cutting, slotting, folding and gluing, with registration and squareness. Printing is covered at the level a converter needs. Box compression strength is addressed, including the relationship to board grade, stacking and humidity, since strength falls sharply in a humid warehouse. Waste and trim optimisation follow. The course closes on customer specification and on investigating a field failure.
