Maintenance Management

Computerised Maintenance Management Systems

A maintenance system holds the record of what an organisation owns and what has been done to it, and most contain data too poor to answer either question. This course covers making one useful. Delegates work through asset register structure and hierarchy, which determines everything that can later be analysed, work order lifecycle and the discipline of closing one honestly, and failure coding that produces analysable history rather than a free text field. Preventive schedules, resources and planning within the system follow. Reporting and the analysis the data should support are covered. The course closes on data cleanup of an existing system and on implementation without repeating the previous failure.

Course objectives

  • Structure an asset register and hierarchy that supports analysis
  • Run the work order lifecycle and close work honestly
  • Apply failure coding that produces analysable history
  • Build preventive schedules and plan resources in the system
  • Produce reporting that answers real maintenance questions
  • Clean up the data in an existing system
  • Implement or replace a system without repeating past failures

Who should attend

  • Maintenance planners, schedulers and supervisors
  • Maintenance and reliability engineers
  • System administrators and key users
  • Storekeepers and materials staff using the system
  • Managers implementing or replacing a system
