Competition authorities across Africa impose penalties calculated on turnover and increasingly pursue individuals, and the conduct that attracts them is often ordinary commercial behaviour nobody flagged. This course covers staying clear of it. Delegates work through the prohibited horizontal practices including price fixing, market allocation and collusive tendering, and the vertical restraints that may or may not be lawful. Abuse of dominance is covered, including what dominance actually means. Merger control and the thresholds that trigger notification follow, along with the consequences of implementing before approval. Leniency and settlement are addressed. The course closes on building a compliance programme and on surviving a dawn raid.
