Airport and Port Security Operations

Aviation and maritime facilities are secured to international standards that are audited, which makes their security different in kind: the requirement is not what a manager judges sufficient but what a convention specifies and an auditor can verify. This course covers working to that. Delegates work through the international framework governing aviation and port facility security and the national authority that applies it. Security programmes and their approval are addressed. Restricted areas, access control and identification systems follow, including the pass system and the background checking behind it. Screening is covered for passengers, baggage, cargo and stores, including the human factors that degrade screener performance over a shift. Vehicle access and control follow. Port facility specifics are addressed, covering ship to port interface, security levels, declarations of security and the drills the code requires. Cargo and container security are covered. Insider threat and airside discipline are addressed. Exercises, audits and corrective action follow. The course closes on incident response and on maintaining certification.
